Group B of the World Cup has two very distinctive favorites, Spain and Portugal. However, both teams lucked out in the draw, as they will have to play against one another in the premiere. This Iberian peninsula derby will shape the group, as whoever wins here will most likely top the group. However, there is a good chance the two teams will be very careful here, so the possibility of a draw is more than likely.  World Cup Portugal vs Spain Spread and Prediction.

Date/Time: 6-15-2018, 14:00 EDT

Spread: Spain -0.5

Total: 2 Goals

European champions in 2016, Portugal will enter this tournament looking to be as competitive. Led by coach Fernando Santos, Portugal are expected to play their usual style of defense. They have Cristiano Ronaldo at a very ripe age, and this will be his last World Cup in his prime. Portugal have a somewhat ageing side, with Pepe, Ricardo Quaresma and Joao Moutinho in their thirties. This looks like the final chance for Portugal to make a great run in the World Cup. However, having to play against Spain in the premiere is really bad luck, as they can quickly find themselves at the bottom of the group.

On the other hand, Spain haven’t had a solid run in a major competition in almost a decade. Winners of the EURO Cup in 2008 and 2012, and also World Cup champions in 2010, Spain have been in somewhat of a dead end. They failed to make an impact in the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 EURO Cup, and will be eager to prove that they are still here. However, they do lack some firepower up front besides Diego Costa. Their defense might have big names, but Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos do lack some chemistry between them.

The two teams are really unlucky to be playing against one another in the opening match. If any of the teams win here they would automatically have the best chances to qualify. Whoever loses might be in deep trouble, as Morocco are ready to wreak havoc in the group.

A draw here would not hurt any of the two sides, as they would both be happy. Portugal have a really slow defense, and Spain’s pacey wingers might exploit that weakness. In any case, even if the two teams play for a draw, it won’t be a goal-less one.
