The second and fifth best teams of the Western Conference are clashing tonight, when the second-best Phoenix Mercury (15-9), who are struggling lately having won only once in their last five games, are hosting the defending champions and second-worse Minnesota Lynx (13-10), who want to turn their latest victory into a streak.

Date/Time: 07-21-2017 22:00 EDT

Spread: Phoenix Mercury -2.5

Total: +160

Phoenix Mercury have a 15-9 record (15-9 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the second place of the West and of the whole league. They have lost four of their last five matches and in their last game they lost at home against the Las Vegas Aces with an 82-85 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Brittney Griner with 20.6 ppg, adding a team high 7.5 boards per game. She is followed by Diana Taurasi with 20.6 ppg as well and a team high 4.9 dimes per game, while DeWanna Bonner adds 15.3 ppg, 6.2 boards and 3.3 dimes per game.

Minnesota Lynx have a 13-10 record (9-14 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit in the second to last place of the West. In their last game they snapped a two-game losing streak by winning at home against the Indiana Fever with an 89-65 score, beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Maya Moore with 17.7 ppg, adding 5 boards per game. She is followed by Sylvia Fowles with 17.3 ppg and a team high 12 boards per game, while Seimone Augustus adds 10.4 ppg.

In their two previous meetings earlier this season each team has won on the road. In the previous Phoenix game the guests won with a 72-83 score. Phoenix are 5-4 at home this season, while Minnesota are 6-5 on the road. Phoenix are better offensively, scoring 83.6 ppg to Minnesota’s 79.1, while Minnesota have the best defense in the league, allowing 76.8 ppg to Phoenix’s 80.9. Both teams have very similar percentages both in field goals (45.3% to 44.7%) and in 3-pointers (35.8% to 35.5%). They are also very close both in turnovers committed (14.4 and 14.3), while Minnesota grab more boards (35.9 to 32) and Phoenix dish more dimes (20.4 to 19.8). Vegas odds give Phoenix a -2.5 spread for tonight’s game but don’t expect them to beat the odds and pick Minnesota for another road win.
