Manchester City destroyed a lot of records last season, on their way to capture the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. They also made a couple of great additions to their roster, and they will now look to repeat that success. Arsenal were not at all good last season, and they will now sail with a new coach at the helm. The two teams will commence the new season on Sunday, when Arsenal will play host to Manchester City.

Spread: Manchester City -0.5

Total: 3 Goals

Arsenal were mediocre at best in the Premier League last season, finishing 6th with 63 points (19-13-6). They were tremendous at home (15-2-2), scoring 54 goals in the process, against just 20 conceded. However, they struggled a lot of the road winning just 4 matches in the Premier League (4-11-4). Arsenal actually made some deep runs in other competitions, like reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League. Moreover, they were runners-up in the Carabao Cup, and won the Community Shield. Coach Wenger left the team after many years, and coach Emery came to replace him. Arsenal brought in defenders Papastathopoulos (Dortmund) and Lichtsteiner (Juventus) to safeguard the defense, along with goalkeeper Leno. They lost Cazorla and Wilshere but they were not first team members.

On the other hand, Manchester City were dominant in the Premier League last season, also setting a lot of records in the process. They have the most points (100), most away points (50), most points ahead of the runners-up (19), most wins (32), most away wins (16), most goals (106), best goal difference (+79), most consecutive victories (18) and the list goes on and on. It is safe to say that Manchester City have now achieved legendary status. They did not make a lot of additions to an already full roster. They splashed the cash for Leicester’s winger Riyad Mahrez, who will add an ever greater depth at the wings.

The two teams met on three occasions last season, and Manchester City did good to win all three. They scored three goals in each of those matches, and conceded just one in the process. They haven’t lost to Arsenal since 2015 (4-0-3 since).

We will need to see how the change in coach will affect Arsenal, but they should be fine in the long run. Manchester City made very few changes to their roster, so the chemistry is already there. Arsenal have some injury concerns on some defenders, so Manchester City will be a handful.
