LAFC tried their best in the US Open Cup semi-finals against Houston, but eventually fell in the penalty shootout. They will now need to get their heads back together, as they will play host to Sportting Kansas City on Saturday. The visitors are coming off a slim win on the road, but were horrible prior to that.

Spread: LAFC -0.25

Total: 3 Goals

LAFC (10-6-6) fought valiantly in the US Open Cup semi-finals against Houston on Wednesday. They took an early lead at the 6th minute with Rossi, but were down by 1-3 by the 75th minute. However, Diego Rossi went on to score at the 78th and 95th minute to record a hattrick and send the match to extra time. Noone scored there and the match went to the penalty shootout, where Houston won after 16 total shots. LAFC are now win-less in their last four (0-2-2), having conceded 12 goals in the process. Even so, they are now sitting at the 4th spot of the Western Conference with 36 points, just as many as their upcoming opponents. LAFC are still undefeated at home (5-0-5), where they have conceded just 8 goals.

On the other hand, Sporting Kansas City (10-6-6) were really lucky in their away match against Houston last week. Their opponents faced an early red card, and actually finished the match with 8 players on the pitch. Sporting Kansas City only managed to score a single goal and escaped with all three points. They really needed that win, as prior to that they were win-less in six. That win boosted them all the way to the 3rd spot of the Western Conference, where they are now tied with LAFC. Sporting Kansas City have been quite competitive on the road so far (4-4-3), but have lost four of their last five.

Both teams have suffered greatly over the past month, especially in the defensive end. They have both conceded tons of goals in their last five or six matches, but Sporting Kansas City look like they are back. They don’t normally concede as many goals, especially at home.

LAFC are doing a spectacular job in their inaugural season in the MLS, but they will now have to find strength. The visitors will come for all three points here, but a draw would keep them ahead of LAFC in the standings.
