Chicago Fire failed to be competitive in the US Open Cup and are now officially in deep trouble. They have lost a ton of matches lately and look unable to turn this around. After three consecutive matches on the road they will now play host to the Red Bulls on Saturday. The Red Bulls have been really solid lately and could prolong Chicago’s misery here.

Spread: Chicago Fire +0.5

Total: 3 Goals

Chicago Fire (6-13-5) are having a really miserable season so far, and their fate was sealed on Wednesday. They were hoping to reach the US Open Cup final and save their season, but fell miserably against Philadelphia on the road (0-3). Chicago have now lost four in a row, and seven of their last eight matches in all competitions. They are now sitting at the penultimate spot of the Eastern Conference with 23 points, five ahead of DC United. Their home record is at shambles (4-6-2), and they have already conceded 22 goals so far.

On the other hand, the New York Red Bulls (14-6-2) struggled a bit in their home match against LAFC last week. They were not very good in the first half but took the lead at the 39th minute with Royer. LAFC pulled even at the 53rd minute, but Royer scored his second personal at the 80th minute for the final 1-2. That was the fourth win in the last five for the Red Bulls. That win brought them back to the 2nd spot of the Eastern Conference, with 44 points. The Red Bulls have the 2nd best away record in the Conference (5-4-1), but have won just two of their last six (2-3-1).

The two teams have already met once earlier in the season, where Chicago won by 2-1 on the road. However, that was their first win over the Red Bulls since 2015 (0-5-2 since). The Red Bulls have not lost any of their last four matches here (2-0-2). But prior to that they hadn’t won since 2005 here (0-10-5).

Chicago Fire at at a boiling point right now, and they are about to explode any time soon. The loss in the US Open Cup could have either destroyed their morale, or challenged their ego. I will take the Over 3 Goals here and watch the match safely.
