Two playoff contenders from opposing conferences are clashing today, when the Detroit Pistons (20-17), who have not yet won this year, are hosting the Houston Rockets (27-10), who want to bounce back after losing against the defending champions in their latest matchup.

Date/Time:  01-06-2018, 19:00 EDT

Spread: Detroit Pistons +5

Total: +214.5

Pistons have a 20-17 record (20-15-2 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the 7th place of the East. They have back-to-back losses and in their last game they lost on the road against the Sixers with a 78-114 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Tobias Harris with 17.9 ppg, adding 5.2 rebounds per game. He is followed by Avery Bradley with 15.3 ppg, while Andre Drummond adds 14.6 ppg and a team high 15 rebounds per game.

Rockets have a 27-10 record (17-19-1 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit in the second place of the West. In their last game they saw a two-game winning streak getting snapped by losing at home against the Warriors with a 114-124 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by James Harden with 32.3 ppg, adding 5 rebounds and a team high 9.1 assists per game but he is out with an injury. He is followed by Eric Gordon with 19.6 ppg, while Chris Paul adds 17.2 ppg and 9.1 assists per game.

In their two meetings last season, each team managed to win on the road (Rockets by 5 points and Pistons by 5 as well). Pistons are 12-5 at home so far this season, while Rockets are 13-4 on the road. Rockets are better offensively, scoring a second-best 115.2 ppg to Pistons’ 101.5, while Pistons are better defensively, allowing 101.6 ppg to Rockets’ 107.1. Rockets have a better field goal percentage, shooting with 46.4% to Pistons’ 44.6%, while Pistons have a better 3-point percentage, shooting with 37.8% to Rockets’ 36.6%. Rockets are better in rebounding (43.8 to 42.1) and in assists made (22.2 to 21.8), while Pistons are better in turnovers committed (14 to 15.1). Pistons are coming off a nasty loss and Vegas odds give Rockets a -5 spread but without Harden it will be hard to beat the odds, so pick Pistons in this one.
