Of the offseason Las Vegas WestGate College Football Games of the Year posted back in May the “Iron Bowl” is the lone remaining affair that appears to have matchup significance for the 2018 College Football Playoff Rankings. The head-to-head contest between now-No #1 Alabama and now-No #6 Auburn is it! College Football 2017 Games of the Year: Alabama -3 at Auburn.
There will of course be a number of Conference Championship contests that impact the 2017 College Football Playoff rankings. But in truth of the remaining WestGate GOY futures the Week #13 contest between Auburn and Alabama is the final pigskin treat. Iron Bowl 2017 has officially been declared a big game. The two SEC schools just announced that the event will take play on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 3:30 p.m. ET. The CBS Sports broadcast team will call the game.
The Tigers won their most recent game Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn posted an impressive 40-17 victory over the College Football Playoff’s highest ranked team, Georgia, this past Saturday. The 82nd Iron Bowl will be held at Jordan-Hare in Auburn, Alabama. The Crimson Tide hold a 45-35-1 advantage in a series that dates back to the 1893 season.
Alabama has won seven of the last nine Iron Bowl meetings and won last year’s rivalry game on the Bryant-Denny Stadium turf by a score of 30-12.
The Crimson Tide remain the odds-on favorite at WestGate to win the national championship. Auburn fan faithful have seen their national championship odds improve from 80-to-1 to 10-to-1 over the last handful of updates.
Over the course of Westgate‘s last three updates for their Games of the Year the Iron Bowl handicap has tightened. Alabama was a 10-point favorite over the Tigers last month but the defensive injuries that Alabama has suffered the past two weeks in combination with Saturday big win by Auburn has seen the handicap for Iron Bowl 2017 shrink.
The Crimson Tide are currently a 3-point favorite over the Tigers.
This month’s Iron Bowl affair sets up to be uber-important. Furthermore the winner of Iron Bowl 2017 will claim stake to the SEC West crown. And as a result face the one-loss Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. The title tilt for the SEC crown will take place in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, December 2nd.
